EDM 1338 – 5 June 2018
POST OFFICE COUNTER SERVICE IN MEMBERS' LOBBY
[This EDM was tabled jointly with Mary Glindon, Sir David Amess, Steve McCabe, Lisa Cameron and Gavin Robinson. It was eventually supported by 59 MPs.]
That this House greatly values the service, over decades, of the Post Office counter staff in the Members' Lobby Post Office; views with concern the proposal to shut down the counter service in that Office; regrets that hon. Members have not had this properly drawn to their attention; acknowledges that an additional 32 hon. Members have also expressed opposition to the proposed closure; and accordingly requires a proper consultation to be held, to which all hon. Members are invited to contribute, before any such loss of service is implemented.
EDM 508 – 6 November 2017
CENTENARY OF THE BOLSHEVIK REVOLUTION
[This EDM was tabled jointly with Andrew Rosindell, Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, Bernard Jenkin, Philip Davies and Sir Edward Leigh. It was eventually supported by 19 MPs.]
That this House notes, with great regret, that 7 November 2017 marks 100 years since Russia's Bolshevik Revolution which subsequently demonstrated, time and again, that Communism is a murderous political ideology, incompatible with liberty, self-government and the dignity of human beings, and injurious to the national, ethnic and religious traditions of the world's peoples; further notes that Communism subjected millions to theft, surveillance, terror and ultimate destruction; acknowledges that the cultural, political and economic legacy of Soviet Communism still negatively affects vast numbers of people today; and accordingly believes that the crimes of Communism, together with those of its mirror image, National Socialism, must forever serve as a warning to humanity of the terrible consequences of totalitarianism in all its forms.
EDM 476 – 30 October 2017
75th ANNIVERSARY OF THE SEIZURE OF ENIGMA DOCUMENTS FROM THE U-559
[This EDM was tabled jointly with 38 other MPs. It was eventually supported by 68 Members of Parliament.]
That this House salutes the extraordinary courage of the three crew members of HMS Petard who, on 30 October 1942, boarded the sinking German submarine U-559 in circumstances of extreme peril; recognises that the Enigma material they retrieved proved vital in saving countless Allied ships and lives; deeply regrets that two of them were drowned when the submarine foundered and the third did not survive the war; and believes that the example and self-sacrifice of Lieutenant Anthony Fasson GC, Able Seaman Colin Grazier GC and Canteen Assistant Tommy Brown GM must never be forgotten.
