Daily Telegraph – 17 March 2015
The Government is in danger of letting down Ministry of Defence Police and Defence Fire & Rescue officers by not correcting what is an acknowledged error in legislation passed two years ago. The mistake means these officers are treated differently from their Home Office counterparts. Despite the important and physically demanding roles they perform in protecting defence assets and personnel, they have to work to the age of 67.
A decision on their future is required before April 1, when they transfer to a Civil Service pensions scheme. This is not an issue of partisan politics: their roles simply require different arrangements. It is vital that the Government takes measures to address the issue immediately.
