Emily Strasser’s grandfather (Features, August 1) may have appeased his personal demons by concluding that the West should abandon its nuclear weapons “even if we did so unilaterally”. Rational analysis, however, recognises the role of nuclear deterrence in preventing all-out war between the major powers since August 1945.
As on previous anniversaries, the BBC seem intent on denouncing the bombing of Hiroshima; yet the people responsible are not those who ended the Second World War, but those who chose to begin it.
