Dr Julian Lewis: May I renew my request to the Leader of the House [Margaret Beckett] for a statement or debate on the folly of a European army, particularly as it has now been described by a likely future assistant to President-elect Bush as "a dagger pointed at the heart of NATO"? While we are on the subject of President-elect Bush, does the right hon. Lady agree that the result of the US presidential election shows that to achieve an electoral victory it is not enough for a party to have had at its head a sharp-suited but shallow individual?
