Dr Julian Lewis: May I reiterate the request of my right hon. Friend the Member for Bromley and Chislehurst (Mr Forth) – in the light of the right hon. Lady's entirely unsatisfactory response to it – that the Prime Minister should come to the House to explain and defend his support for Romano Prodi as head of the European Commission? She must be aware that Mr Prodi has explicitly stated that his aim is to create a single economy and a single state in Europe. The House is therefore entitled to know whether the Prime Minister supports those aims, or whether it was just sheer ignorance that led him to support the nomination of someone whose political aims are anathema to the people of this country.
