Dr Julian Lewis: The right hon. Lady [Margaret Beckett] knows that I am always keen to assist her if she is in a spot of difficulty. May I therefore suggest that, to pad out Monday's business – which is currently composed of inconsequential and uncontroversial matters – she might find time for the appropriate Law Officers to make a statement to the House on why Dr Anthony Glees, a distinguished researcher at Brunel University, has not been contacted by the Security Service, the police or the Crown Prosecution Service about the contents of the Stasi files that he found? They exposed in great detail the activities of Dr Robin Pearson, Ms Fiona Houlding and others. The same material in America and Germany has been the basis of successful prosecutions, in one case sending someone to prison for a total of 18 years.
